The Supplementary Protocol came into force on 6 December 2012

The Nagoya-Kuala Lumpur Supplementary Protocol on Liability and Redress to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, ratified by the Republic of Lithuania on 26 September 2012, came into force on 6 December 2012. The Supplementary Protocol will enter into force when 40 Parties to the Biosafety Protocol ratify it. To date nine countries have ratified the Supplementary Protocol.
